Editing Process
Our editor Kelsey Myers has been hard at work and has already finished the first cut of Him! Kelsey and I use an online platform called Frame.io to exchange notes about everything from big picture thoughts to tiny, half-second cuts to make.
A typical indie film editing process takes 10 weeks to achieve āpicture lockā - when the assembly of footage is final. After picture lock, there is still a lot to do, including color correction, scoring, and VFX moments. Our editing process for Him will take a little longer that 10 weeks as Kelsey and I both have additional commitments, but we are still working at a remarkably efficient pace. Kelsey delivered the Editorās Cut on April 1, and we will have a complete second cut by the end of this weekend.
Music
Another big element of post-production is music: original music, and securing the rights for published songs. We are working with an amazing NYC composer, Luc Cianfarani, on our original score (more about Luc in an upcoming newsletter!) We have also begun reaching out to indie artistsā managers to inquire about music rights. If you know a femme indie artist we should check out, please drop us a line! We are super inspired by women such as Ecca Vandal, Dragonette, and Stela Cole - check out our curated Spotify playlist.
Whatās next?
Our next hires will be for color and post-sound mix and design, but before you know it, weāll be looking at cutting a trailer and making a poster! We have ambitious goals for 2024, which is when Him will make its festival debut.
Letās make a movie!
